Leptin receptor is also called LEP-R or OB-R. It is a human protein that is encoded by the Lepr gene. Interaction of Leptin and Leptin receptor is important for bodyweight and bone mass regulation in mammals through hypothalamic effects on satiety and energy expenditure. Numerous studies broadly show that Lepr gene polymorphism is related to the levels of blood glucose, insulin, leptin and triglyceride. Deficiency of Lepr gene can directly lead to obesity.
