mCAP

真核生物和病毒的mRNA在5'起始端有一个单甲基化修饰的帽子结构，m7G（5'）ppp（5'）G或称为mCAP。 Cap类似物在多种细胞过程中起重要作用，比如蛋白合成的起始，避免核酸外切酶切割RNA，作为招募前体mRNA剪接、聚腺苷酸化和核输出所需蛋白因子的独特地识别信号。Cap可以与不同的结合蛋白、起始因子和核糖体元件相互作用。

mCAP是分子生物学工具中的第一个cap类似物。 mCAP以50%的机会以正确的方向插入，来增强翻译。 另外50％的分子不能成为有效翻译的底物，降低了转录本的特异活性。

通过将cap类似物和GTP的混合物（通常比例为4：1）可将mCAP掺入转录本中。大约80％的合成mRNA将具有5' cap，而其余的20％只具有5'三磷酸。
