Cyclopiazonic acid is a neurotoxic secondary metabolite produced by A. flavus and is a nanomolar inhibitor of endoplasmic reticulum calcium ATPase (Ca2+ATPase; SERCA). Cyclobenzoic acid does not inhibit many other types of membrane-bound ATPase, it can effectively inhibit SERCA in intact tissues, smooth muscle and endothelium, and isolated cells[1,2]. It is an effective inducer of plant cell death[3].
